Two months ago I felt a bump on my head and wasn't sure if it was a mole or what so I picked at it. It seemed to go away at that time. The next day I felt again and noticed some of my hair was missing on the bottom of my hair close to my right ear. It was a patch about the size of a nickel. I was a little concerned, but had NO idea what it was.
I showed it to a couple of friends. One of them happen to be going to our hairdresser and she mentioned to her. Another hairdresser heard the conversation and said it sounded like Alopecia.
I kept feeling the spot where the hair was gone and it seemed to be getting bigger. My husband started doing research and he found the disease Alopecia. It sounded just like what was happening.
I went to my OBGYN doctor because I was having other problems. I kind of felt like the hair loss was going to be hormonal. He diagnosed me with Alopecia, but didn't know any details about the disease. He told me I needed to go to my dermatologist.
I went to the dermatologists and he confirmed that I have alopecia and there is no cure and no reason on why it happens. He said I could try some creams to apply to my head or do injections in that area, but they are painful and not definite that they will work. He was very confident that my hair will grow back within a year because there is hair growth there.
